From day one, The 19th has punched above its weight on the national news stage. Now we’re taking it to the next level, with the hiring of Flora Peir as our first news editor.
Flora, an 18-year veteran of The New York Times and graduate of the Asian American Journalist Association’s executive leadership program, has been a line editor and headline writer for local, national and international news; an assignment editor for late-breaking news; and for the last four years, helped decide what makes the Times’ national print section. (No word on whether she’s ever had to scream “Stop the presses!”)
At The 19th, she’ll oversee our daily news operation and find the gender lens on the nation’s biggest stories with our forthcoming breaking news team. More details on that soon!
An Arlington, Texas, native and graduate of Baylor University, Flora lives in Queens with her husband and three kids under 12. In her spare (ha!) time, she says she reads romance, chugs boba, takes naps and sings “mediocre but enthusiastic” karaoke. She’s also a former Jeopardy! contestant.
Flora starts May 10. Please join us in welcoming her to The 19th family!
