With a number of hires on the horizon, we are thrilled to announce that Jayo Miko Macasaquit will be joining The 19th as our Chief People Officer and a senior member of our leadership team.

Jayo comes to The 19th from Mother Jones, where he established equity-centered HR processes for recruiting and onboarding, benefits, performance evaluations, compensation and more. Before Mother Jones, Jayo led human resources for the Oakland Public Education Fund after spending his earlier years in the for-profit space.

Jayo was a 2019 Equity in Leadership Fellow at the Surge Institute, and holds an MFA in Writing from the California College of the Arts. He is based in Oakland, Calif., and is a current board member of the non-profit Kearny Street Workshop.

The 19th thanks our sponsors. Become one.

We are looking forward to partnering with Jayo to ensure The 19th’s values — including gender and racial equity, diversity, data-driven decision making, community, civility and transparency — are a guiding force for our entire organization.

His first day will be May 10. Please join us in welcoming Jayo to the team!
