The United States is grappling with a mental health crisis. One-third of adults report struggling with anxiety and loneliness over the past year, and the numbers are higher for young adults, LGBTQ+ people and women. In our Mental Health, Loneliness and Community event, The 19th gathered powerhouse groups to talk about how to prioritize mental health as individuals and in our communities.
Three years of separation, isolation and fragmented social infrastructure have left so many people muddling through fraught times on their own. Are we all alone together? We brought together a group of social commentators to discuss loneliness and how to find community no matter who or where you are. We also gathered established mental health professionals who focus on serving their own communities, ones often marginalized by the mainstream medical community.
In case you missed it, we discussed anxiety, loneliness and how to break down the stigma around mental health while opening doors to care in the Black, Asian American and Latinx communities.
